C’est officiel. Le biopic de Nina Simone sort en décembre 2015. L’auteur-compositeur et interprète qui nous a quitté en 2003 n’a jamais suscité autant d’intérêt que ces trois dernières années.
En effet, le film, Nina, écrit et réalisé par Cynthia Mort, a fait l’objet d’une controverse autour de la belle actrice, Zoe Saldana, choisie pour incarner le rôle de la chanteuse. Si certains ne lui trouvent aucune ressemblance avec Nina Simone, d’autres pensent que sa dimension artistique n’est pas à la hauteur de l’icône de la soul.
Et comme un problème ne vient jamais seul, la réalisatrice, poursuit, le producteur anglais de Ealing Studios Enterprises en justice, pour l’avoir écarté du montage final.
Mais c’est la fille de Nina Simone qui enfonce le clou en choisissant de soutenir le brillant documentaire de Liz Garbus, What happened, Miss Simone ?, disponible sur Netflix depuis le 26 juin 2015.
En attendant, ce film « de la malchance », qui a déjà subi beaucoup de retard, est bien prévu en salle cet hiver. Petit bémol : Il sera difficile de passer derrière celui de Liz Garbus.

It is official. Nina Simone’s biopic will be released this december 2015. The composer-singer-songwriter who left us in 2003 has never raised so much interest and discussion over those past three years.
The film, « Nina », written and directed by Cynthia Mort, has created serious controversy around the beautiful actress, Zoe Saldana, chosen to play the role of the singer. If some people have blamed her for a lack of ressemblance with Nina Simone, others think that her artistic dimension is not up to the soul icon.
Just as misfortune never comes one at a time, the director, sued the British producer of Ealing Studios Enterprises for cutting her out of the final editing process.
Finally, Nina Simone’s daughter forces the issue. She chooses to support Liz Garbus’ brilliant documentary, « What happened, Miss Simone ? », available on Netflix since 26th June 2015.
Until then, this film of « misfortune », whose releasing has been delayed several times, is scheduled in theaters this winter. One slight note of caution : it sounds hard to do better than Liz Garbus’ one.
